Kroptkin (already mentioned a few times in this wiki) was talking about this in the 1890s - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_Aid:_A_Factor_of_Evolution --Balatro 19:04, 3 August 2013 (CEST)

Population, logevity and resources issue

Bypassing conventional monetary economics

Old intro, think there are bits could use elsewhere:

We are still nowhere near the potential height of human civilisation. Here we aim to look at the next steps, and show how it will be based on a new fluid grouping of minds and everything that can achieve. These groups will be adhoc, distributed, self-organising and yet immensely effective.

People will be self-selecting in their roles and motivated directly by their own need for a better solution. It will feel like a much more natural and sensible way of working for those involved, compared to the current situation of unnecessary complexity, duplication of effort and indirect motivation. It will also be vastly more powerful than anything we have seen before.

People will be able to work on what interests them and because these activities are open and transparent, in order to benefit as many people as possible, others are willing to join in and help too. It is the new enlightenment, and in some disciplines it is well under way.

These peer-to-peer activities combined with modern technologies have the capability to enable a world of post-scarcity and the resultant post-materialism. It will be a method by which we can more sensibly direct our progress and will be better not only for us but also the natural world. This new world is coming at an extremely rapid pace, so you might want to prepare yourself...

Another lump:

The basis for this vision of the next phase of civilisation has been knocking around in my head since 2000/01 and I thought it was time I wrote it down semi-coherently to distill my thoughts, help give the concepts wider exposure, and to link to others who are working on ideas in a similar space.

A wiki seemed an obvious choice as it is an easy way to evolve a website, and if at some point I get a critical mass of information on it and the vision strikes a chord then other people can easily come and join me to help make this a significant resource on the subject, as an open project.

Another version which didn't quite work

Not even close. Our present culture is conditioned by centuries of scarcity that have shaped our present economic systems and is the root of many social and environmental problems that most are familiar with today. However new technology and collaborative frameworks are emerging that have to potential to provide unprecedented solutions. This means it will become increasingly unacceptable to let needless scarcity continue in the face of what is possible.

Via the internet a new fluid grouping of minds is evolving that is adhoc, distributed, mutually sharing and potentially far more effective at problem-solving and technical development than anything that has come before. It is the new enlightenment. In some areas, notably software development and knowledge gathering, it is well under way – but this is just the beginning. These 'open' peer-to-peer activities are about to burst out into the physical world enabling us to do things both technologically and economically that were not previously feasible.

AdCiv.org is exploring the emerging possibilities, focusing on concepts that could take us to the next logical phase of civilisation – namely an ecologically sympathetic post-scarcity age where knowledge, tools and resources are freely shared. It may sound far-fetched to the uninitiated but the essential elements are developing rapidly, so you might want to prepare yourself...

Seems that so-called 'industrial' systems are likely to become more distributed as the flexible computer-control fabrication processes become more prevalent and more capable.

Hi Charles. Nice wiki! It's probably a good idea to see if Wikipedia will move to the CC-BY-SA and do likewise here. Guaka 13:42, 26 March 2009 (CET)

Thanks for the kind words. Will certainly bear the license change in mind --CharlesC 20:27, 26 March 2009 (CET)

Switching license - please act soon!

I hope you're switching from GFDL to CC-BY-SA. There's only 22 days left. You as the operator can make the call.

I only just discovered your wiki - it would be good to talk about collaboration between AdCiv and Appropedia. --Chriswaterguy 05:49, 9 July 2009 (CEST)

Hi Chris, thanks for comments. I've replied on your user page. - Charles.
Great! I look forward to talking. I'm Chriswaterguy on Skype, or email (the same username) at appropedia dot org, or singkong on goog1e chat. --Chriswaterguy 10:52, 12 July 2009 (CEST)
