A list of good quality and useful free and open-source software. There is plenty of other high quality open-source software out there, this list is an introductory sample for those who are new to it. Many of these programs and tools are cross-platform, meaning they can be installed on MS Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Graphics and multimedia
- GIMP - Bitmap graphics editor, similar to Adobe Photoshop
